On behalf of a five-star hotel manager, the team transferred personal belongings from the Philippine Islands to the Perhentian Islands in Malaysia.

Known above all for their diving spots, these small islands are located in the South China Sea, some 19km off the northeast coast of the Malay Peninsula and 64km south of the Thai border.

Finding the best solution for your move

AGS Finds the Best Solution for Your Move

From the outset, the move posed a challenge, not least because it was still monsoon season. This means fewer ferries to the Perhentian islands. “Normally, there are two ferries in the morning and two in the evening,” says Cyril Quenneville, who leads AGS Movers Malaysia. “But in February, we had to find a passenger ship ourselves.”

Yewa Loke, AGS Malaysia’s import coordinator, worked for ten days to find the right vessel, the right team, and the smoothest possible logistical flow. “The customer clearly understood the complexity of the task. We kept her informed every step of the way,” assures Cyril.

After securing a boat, AGS waited for good weather to send a truck with 45 boxes of personal items to the northeast of the island. But the truck, carrying 10m3 of belongings, could only travel as far as the hotel’s pontoon. From there, the team loaded the goods onto the pontoon for final delivery to the hotel, where the customer now lives and works. She was very happy with the outcome.

AGS expertise in hard-to-reach places

“We’ve made island deliveries before, like to Langkawi, but until now we’ve been able to rely on our truck to get us to the final destination,” stresses the AGS Malaysia manager. “This was our first time making the exceptional crossing to the Perhentian Islands.”

This delivery is reminiscent of other moves Cyril’s team has carried out in hard-to-reach locations, like the island of Labuan or the town of Bintulu, on Borneo. Each time AGS Malaysia has found a unique solution.

Wherever your destination, AGS adapts, carrying out your move in most efficient and cost-effective way possible. We aim to make your transition to new horizons a smooth, stress-free experience. Get your free moving quote today.

How Cyril Quenneville has made AGS a unifying forcefor expatriates in Malaysia https://www.agsmovers.com/news/ags-malaysia/ Thu, 17 Jun 2021 00:00:00 +0000 https://www.agsmovers.com/news/comment-cyril-quenneville-a-fait-dags-un-acteur-federateur-pour-les-expatries-en-malaisie/ After construction delays and the Covid crisis, the Hevea nursery school in Kuala Lumpur has finally opened its doors. Built a few hundred meters away from the French high school LFKL, the brand-new facility caters to children from 3 to 8 years. With a capacity of nearly 400 students, the building complies with French regulations and includes a swimming pool, a shaded playground, and a playroom for the youngest children. Each bright and soundproof classroom has a private garden and a small courtyard.

The success of this project is largely due to the efforts of Cyril Quenneville, head of AGS Malaysia. “I approached the school in 2013 with the desire to help expatriate families from all communities and support them during their stay in Malaysia,” says Cyril Quenneville, who has been running the branch for eight years. Since then, Cyril Quenneville and his team have supported the school’s major sporting events and intra-Asian tournaments, offering AGS-branded jerseys and lending trucks, tents, and other canopies. He never skips a school fair and always sets up a bouncy castle in the shape of a removal truck for the children.

An essential partner

When the school needed renovation in 2017, it was only natural for Cyril Quenneville to volunteer the necessary funding. Initially, 10 000 euros were used to renovate the French high school, LFKL Gymnasium, more particularly the floors and ventilation systems. Subsequently, he provided another 10 000 euros for the construction of the nursery school. To show their appreciation, the school administration installed two plaques in honour of Cyril Quenneville and AGS, one in the kindergarten and the other one in the gymnasium. In total, the high school and preschool accommodate 750 students from early childhood through to high school. “Being the main partner of these schools gives us a high visibility in the expatriate community,” says the manager. “Our contribution shows that we are present during the essential activities of daily life and that we are fully committed to the community.”

Supporting families in Malaysia

The AGS Malaysia branch manager notes that, with nearly 3 500 French nationals in Maylaysia, supporting the only French school in the country by becoming one of its main partners was essential. “The family unit is part of the AGS group DNA, which is itself family-owned,” says Cyril Quenneville. “We want make a difference for local families by improving infrastructure where necessary and helping to organise events that bring community together. “

Unifying events

The French school serves as a community hub as well was a rehearsal space of the amateur expatriates’ theatre club, of which Cyril Quenneville is a member. Cyril is similarly involved in local life and is a member of the French-speaking association in Malaysia. He organises various family events, such as pétanque tournaments, go-karting, barbecues, and Christmas parties. And every time, the group’s tents and equipment are erected. In 2019, Cyril Quenneville also supported the organisation of the Bastille Day celebrations in partnership with the French Chamber of Commerce and the Alliance Française of Kuala Lumpur. The day is important for all expatriates who come to meet and get to know each other.

There is no doubt that the upcoming events that Cyril Quenneville has organised, such as the pétanque tournament or the Highlands Games in September, will be much appreciated by the expatriate community who remain grounded due to the pandemic-related travel restrictions. According to AGS Malaysia’s director, “this involvement in the expatriate community allows us to create strong ties with the families.”

AGS Malaysia wins HR Vendors of the Year 2017 Silver Trophy https://www.agsmovers.com/news/ags-malaysia-wins-hr-vendors-of-the-year-2017-silver-trophy/ Wed, 20 Dec 2017 13:23:03 +0000 https://www.agsmovers.com/?p=26852 AGS Movers Malaysia participated in the HR Vendors of the Year 2017 Awards for the first time, and on 16 November the team won the silver trophy for an overall second place in the competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The “HR Vendors of the Year” Award acknowledges the most trusted HR solutions provider. The judges are made up of 22 Human Resources Managers from large corporates (BNP, Leo Burnett, GE, Lazada and Roche amongst others).

Winners are selected by taking a range of criteria into account including commercial performance, product or service development, people and perspective. Candidates compete in one of thirty-two categories covering the various aspects of human resources, including recruitment, talent management, employee benefits, workforce mobility, staff training and development, outsourcing and technology.

AGS Malaysia, presented in the “Best Relocation Company” category (“Workforce mobility” section), had to provide – as each competitor – a complete file of developing elements required for judges to make a decision. As a result, the increase in turnover over the past three years (between 17 and 18%) and a very low staff turnover (0.1% in five years), boosted the branch’s overall count. AGS Malaysia, which has 30 employees, is also distinguished by a multilingual staff (five languages are spoken in the agency), various training programmes for employees, taking into account their career plans, loyalty of key accounts, a development strategy focused on diplomatic relocations and VIP clients and lastly, a strong involvement in social life through various sponsorships.

The AGS Malaysia team is proud of its second place accomplishment for its first time participation. The motivation and enthusiasm of the team, led by Cyril Quenneville, Manager of the branch, suggests that they will do even better in 2018. We wish them all the best for the future.
